A weekend of concerts, talks and masterclasses to mark 250 years since the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. We celebrate the innovation of his early period, alongside first performances of new chamber and orchestral pieces.

Timothy Jackson – Continuo world premiere

Pixels Ensemble opens the University of Leeds Beethoven Firsts weekend with his groundbreaking first piano sonata and piano trio, alongside a world premiere of Timothy Jackson’s ingenious Continuo.

Grace-Evangeline Mason – Into The Abyss, I Throw Roses, for string trio
Ludwig van Beethoven – String Quartet no 1 in F

Beethoven’s first string quartet and violin sonata, his first examples in genres he would come to redefine; with new works for piano trio and string trio.

The first published piano concerto and the transformative first symphony, together with new work by Oliver Rudland (www.oliverrudland.com), a postgraduate researcher at the University of Leeds.
