True Think is a multi-generational, multi-cultural reflection of several periods of pianist Robert Mitchell’s journey. They perform the music from their new recording encompassing powerful songs of protest, love and peace blending electronic, jazz, RnB, spoken word, film and folk.
Robert Mitchell is one of the most significant voices in British jazz. Multi-faceted creator, pianist, composer, improviser, writer and poet. As Gilles Peterson put it, ‘a very important, influential musician’ and a relentless seeker and thinker, combining many art forms, musical genres and constantly pushing the envelope. Robert Mitchell and True Think present music from their debut, double album “Hold The Light/The New Resistance”.
"Searing musicianship and precisely declaimed poetry combined with a rich instrumental palette and impeccable ensemble playing, all punctuated by epic, euphoric improvisation."
Barney Stevenson Artistic Director, Marsden Jazz Festival 2022
"Robert Mitchell has created an innovative but also accessible set of material on this album. It captures very successfully various elements of the current contemporary British music scene."
Tony Dudley-Evans, London Jazz News
"Robert Mitchell is one of Britain’s finest and most versatile pianist-composer-improvisors"
The Wire Magazine
"There are two poems by Mr. Mitchell included in the liner notes, both of which show him to be a wonderfully thoughtful, articulate and probing poet of the highest order."
Bruce Lee Gallanter, DMG NYC
