A meeting of musical minds drew Opera North colleagues Jessica Burroughs and David Cowan to perform their first concerts together as a duo in 2021.
Section Leader cellist Jessica is in demand as an orchestral leader regularly performing at the BBC Proms and as a chamber musician with the Roscoe Piano Trio and Cypriot contemporary music group, Ensemble Cyclamen. Alongside solo commitments, Jessica is passionate about finding ways to make music more accessible. She is on the Board of Trustees for Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and holds the position of Events Programmer for the charity, Awards for Young Musicians.
David has been Head of Music at Opera North since 2015, having previously held the posts of Music Director in Strasbourg and Head of Music and Casting Director in Theater Basel, Switzerland. He has conducted a large and varied repertoire of opera and worked as a vocal coach around the UK and Europe. As piano-accompanist he has performed in concerts with many singers, including Simon Keenlyside and Dame Kiri te Kanawa, and with string players including the great French cellist, Maurice Gendron.
They bring together a delightful programme of 19th century romantic works by Schumann, Chopin, and Dvorak.

COVID-Safety

The health and safety of our audiences, visiting musicians, students and staff remain our priority. We are currently restricting the capacity of Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall to 120 people (50%), have strict cleaning regimes in place, and have enhanced ventilation. We encourage audiences to wear face coverings, socially distance, and use hand sanitiser when attending our concerts. We ask audience members not to attend a concert if they have tested positive for covid or have any symptoms.
