Event 34: Early Music Festival: Nine Daies Wonder
- Date
- Sunday 23 February 2014, 3.00pm - 5.00pm
The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments
Clare Salaman (director) Steven Player (dancer, musician, comedian, actor) and members of The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments
In 1599, Will Kemp Morris danced from London to Norwich, an epic journey which he publicised in his account ‘Nine Daies Wonder’. The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments celebrate this eccentric publicity stunt with dancing, comedy, raucous dance tunes and more refined music of the Elizabethan age, breathing new life into an extraordinary event which remains awe-inspiring 400 years on and still has the power to delight, amuse, and provoke the question as to whether or not such an undertaking is really a good idea.
