Early Music Festival: Revival in Retrospect

Naomi Okuda and Pawel Siwczak present a fascinating programme of music for recorder and harpsichord from the 18^th and 20^th centuries using period instruments.

For more than a century the ‘Early Music movement’ has influenced a steady move towards playing music from earlier times on original instruments or carefully crafted copies.

In this concert Naomi and Pawel look back at the revival of interest in period instruments, using a pair original instruments typical of the mid 20^th century contrasted with excellent copies of 18^th century instruments.

Using an original Dolmetsch recorder and Goble harpsichord with leather plectra, paired with historically informed copies of a Flemish harpsichord and treble recorder, Naomi and Pawel explore aspects the early music revival presenting not only 18^th but also 20^th century music played on period instruments.
