Anthem for Doomed Youth

Date
Date
Wednesday 22 October 2014, 7.30pm - 9.30pm

Andrew Motion (reader) Ian Buckle (piano)

Andrew Motion is President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England and co-founder of The Poetry Archive. The former Poet Laureate is joined by pianist Ian Buckle for a rich tapestry of words and music, commemorating the centenary of the start of World War I. Sir Andrew reads his own work and poems by Wilfred Owen and Geoffrey Hill, reflecting on the futility of war, interweaved with Ian's performance of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, miniatures by Elgar, Bridge, Ireland, and Bainton, and Variations by Webern, who was shot and killed by accident in the last days of the Second World War.
