Zarzuela! A Celebration of Zarzuela and Spanish Music
In collaboration with Instituto Cervantes, we celebrate the Spanish music theatre tradition of Zarzuela with a performance by mezzo-soprano Sophie Clarke and pianist Silvia Lucas.
Sophie Clarke is a mezzo-soprano, actor and dancer from Liverpool. She was awarded the Hargreaves and Ball Scholarship to study for a Masters of Music in Classical Singing and Opera at The Royal Northern College of Music where is under the tutelage of Yvonne Howard and Louise Winter. She recently won the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition 2022. Sophie frequently performs across the country as a soloist, in choirs, and in operatic roles.
Silvia Lucas is a Spanish pianist and electronic performer, educated up to PhD at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK), where she was highly commended in the Gold Medal Weekend (2015). Silvia is an active performer of new music, premiering many new works for piano and electronics. She performs internationally all around the UK, Europe and USA. Recent performances of her include appearances in the Akademie der Kunste (Berlin), Darmstadt Ferienkurse and Cornell University (New York).
