Marie Vassiliou (soprano) Nico de Villiers (piano)

Marie Vassiliou studied Singing and Viola at the Royal College of Music, where she won numerous prizes & the Tagore Gold Medal, as outstanding student of her year. She has performed widely in the UK, including all major London concert venues, and at such leading festivals as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and BBC Proms. She has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, 4 & Radio France and made numerous recordings. Noted for her versatility, her operatic work has taken her across Europe and she has had two operas written for her this year. She is particularly noted for her work in Baroque & Contemporary rep, having worked with such groups as Early Opera Group, Purcell Quartet, Composer’s Ensemble, Endymion, Ensemble 10/10 and the Philharmonia. She is also a member of the teaching staff at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Her research interests include fearlessness and 'flow' in performance. Marie and Nico have worked together since early 2011 and have recently recorded their first disc together in Leeds - the first ever disc to be entirely devoted to the songs of Richard Hageman.
