Family Concert: Family Gamelan Workshop

Date
Date
Sunday 23 November 2014, 3.00pm - 4.30pm

The University of Leeds' genuine Indonesian instruments, the Golden Thread Gamelan, will be opened up to the public as part of a family-friendly workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the resonant sound-world of the instruments, to learn a piece from the traditional gamelan repertoire, and to find out more about the cultural background to the music. The session will be led by community musician Emily Crossland, who directs the Golden Thread Gamelan, performs with York's Gamelan Sekar Petak and runs gamelan outreach projects across Yorkshire and the Humber, particularly with Music4U and the National Centre for Early Music.
