The Hallé Soloists and Sofya Gulyak
Sofya Gulyak (piano) Lyn Fletcher (violin) Tim Pooley (viola) Nick Trygstaad (‘cello) Robert Carilla Garcia (double bass)
Acclaimed chamber ensemble Hallé Soloists are delighted to be returning to Leeds in partnership with the 2009 winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition Sofya Gulyak. Sofya was the first female winner in the competition's history and has appeared regularly with the Halle Orchestra since. The ensemble, comprised of Halle principal players, is led by Lyn Fletcher and presents more intimate works in the first half - James MacMillan's 'Kiss on Wood' for violin and piano inspired by an Easter text, Prokoviev's Sonata for Cello and Piano, and Chopin's Grande Polonaise - all that before Brahms's mighty Piano Quintet.'
