Event 15: ‘Beata Caecilia’: Music for St Cecilia’s Day

Date
Date
Friday 22 November 2013, 1.05pm - 1.55pm

Clothworkers Consort of Leeds directed by Bryan White

22 November is the feast day of Cecilia, patron saint of music. In 2013 it also marks the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten. To celebrate, the choir sings Britten’s a cappella setting of the W.H. Auden Hymn to St Cecilia, along with the earliest Cecilian works by an English composer, Peter Philips’s sacred motets Cantantibus organis a5, Caecilia virgo a8 and Beata Caecilia a2.
